How We Choose Products
Last updated 2026-06-20
Gate 1: Real Product
Every product we consider must be a genuine, purchasable bicycle or cycling item sold by an identifiable manufacturer and listed by a real retailer with a current, verifiable listing. We exclude knock-off listings, duplicate ASINs for the same physical item, and products where the listing does not include sufficient specification data to compare meaningfully against alternatives in the same category. Products that are consistently out of stock or discontinued are removed from active rankings.
Gate 2: Verified Demand
A product must show documented consumer demand before we include it in a ranking. We measure demand through a combination of verified review count and confirmed purchase volume data. Products with very few reviews or no purchase signal are excluded regardless of how compelling their specifications appear on paper. This gate filters out products that are theoretically good but have not found a real buyer base.
Gate 3: Rating 3.8 Stars or Higher
We require a minimum aggregate rating of 3.8 out of 5 stars, drawn from a meaningful number of verified purchaser reviews. Products that fall below this threshold are excluded from rankings even if they clear the other gates, because a sub-3.8 rating across a large review sample is a reliable signal that a meaningful share of buyers are dissatisfied. Products that drop below this floor after initially qualifying are removed from rankings at the next scheduled data refresh.
Gate 4: Real Brand Plus Ranking
Products must come from a brand with a verifiable commercial history, including a traceable manufacturer identity and a consistent product line. Generic or unverifiable white-label products are excluded. Products that clear all four gates are then ranked within their category using a combination of specification quality relative to price, rating score, and aggregate buyer demand. Higher-rated products with stronger demand and stronger specifications for the price rank higher. Ranking positions are updated on a rolling schedule as new products enter the market and existing products accumulate additional buyer data.
